NOTABLE QUOTABLES

'I thank Idol every day for giving me these opportunities, because I wouldn't have had them otherwise and I'm not afraid to admit that.'
-Kevin Covais
JB- Of course we see this season on American Idol the Idol Gives Back charity event, the fundraiser. Are you doing any charity work at all? Are you working with any organizations?
KC- I'm doing quite a bit of charity work right now. I'm a diabetic of seven years and I'm 18 years old now, and I was diagnosed with diabetes right after my eleventh birthday, and so I've been working with the American Diabetes Association immediately after the show. My home is in New York, and I was doing a lot of work locally with walks and with foundations. Found a way to expand that to working with the American Diabetes Association both out in New York and - now that I'm out here - out in California as well. So it's been so rewarding, such a cause that is so near and dear to my heart, to contribute and go to walks and reach out, especially to the kids, to everyone, of course. But being a kid myself, it means so much to me. So I've been working quite a bit with them.
JB- It's interesting that when the show first started, when American Idol first started, it's kind of like the people on here are going to do music and that's that. Then we see movies coming out, we hear of all these different things. So it's quite interesting what the experience and the exposure can do for you and your life and career.
KC- It's amazing! The show's just taken on a life of its own. It's just so incredibly massive, and I got to be part of a year when the show was definitely beginning that peak that it's now ascended to. You look back on our year, and out of that final Top 12 of our group, the albums that have come out, the success stories that have come out. I'm just so proud of everyone and I'm definitely happy with what I've been able to do so far. It's really amazing what the show can do for you, and I thank Idol every day for giving me these opportunities, because I wouldn't have had them otherwise and I'm not afraid to admit that.
JB- What can we expect of Kevin Covais in the next few months? Where will he be five years from now? More movies? An album? What's going on?
KC- Where will Kevin Covais be? I ask myself that question every day when I wake up in the morning. No, I think that in the next five years if I could do it all I would love to continue on with the music in due time. I would love to make an album in the next couple of years. I'm in no rush to do that. I have a lot to learn musically, and I'm not afraid to admit it. I would love to continue on with my acting career now, so I would love to make more movies and do television. Thinking really far down the road, 10, 15 years I would really love to do eventually do all that I'm doing now - with my charity work, with the acting, with the singing - and I would love to be a sports broadcaster. I would love to call games for the National Football League as well as major league baseball down the road.
JB- Would you ever do a rap album with Kevin Federline?
KC- (laughing) I don't know. I don't think so. Rapping is something that I do for fun. You know, after I did the thing with Paris people were like, "Is Kevin really taking rapping seriously?" And I had to tell them, "No, I'm not." I think I'm halfway decent at it, I'm not afraid to say. I think I can hold it to them with rapping.
JB- Well, you're one up on K-Fed.
KC- I don't know how?? I would do it for fun, but I could never take myself seriously for doing that.
JB- Same thing with Federline!

JB- Thanks for stopping by and chatting. Great talking with you, Chicken Little. All the best in the future.
KC- It's been a pleasure. Great, thank you.

JB- Are you still watching the show? Are you following it?
KC- I definitely am still watching the show. I tell people I was such a huge fan of the show, which was one of the things that inspired me to try out season 5. So I was such a huge fan seasons 1 through 4 that it only makes sense that I continue supporting the show, and am still a fan even though I have gained a new perspective as a former contestant. I've watched pretty much all of last year. I was shooting my movie, so I missed some of it, but I've gotten to watch just about all of this season so far.
JB- What do you think of the eliminations? Did you see it last night (April 23) then [when Carly Smithson was eliminated]?
KC- Oh, boy, that was pretty tough. That was not the right choice, let me say.
JB- Who should've gone?
KC- In my opinion, well, and they're all great. At this point in the game they're all really talented, but in my opinion out of the performances it either should have been Brooke or Jason (Castro). But it was a tough night for both of them, but Carly gave a really strong performance. I was scratching my head after that one.
JB- Who's the next American Idol?
KC- This year? I think it should be, in my opinion, I think it should be David Cook. I'm a huge fan of his. He along with (David) Archuleta are popular picks at this point. My money's on Cook. They're both great as are the rest of the contestants. I'm a big fan of Syesha (Mercado) and hoping that she makes it the next couple of weeks too. But we'll see what happens.
