PRESS CONFERENCE TRANSCRIPT

Not only were the SpeakFree cameras capturing images from the press conference but we've also got word for word what happened there too!
Scott Henderson- So, judges, how are you feeling?
Zack Werner- Great.
Sass Jordan- Fantastic what a fabulous season and the guy we love won. Can't ask for more than that can we?

Question- At what point during the competition did you know who was going to win?
Sass- I don't think there was any point when we knew he was going to win, but there was a point where we knew that we wanted him to win. (laughing)
Jake Gold- When we started out this season we allowed instruments and we were looking for that great singer-songwriter. We were looking for that rock guy. We had never had a real rock guy on there before, that won the show, and Brian represented that. And that was where in a lot of cases where we wanted the show to go and so in a lot of ways it worked out.
Zack- I do think that we thought that between Greg and Brian that there was going to be some vote stealing regardless of where they came from territorially and that I personally thought that Greg may be a little too perfect for some people to fall in love with him and that Brian is going through this growth curve that if he could survive long enough, he's the kind of guy who could really do something strong. But I think the two of them, from our perspective, even though Greg went home much earlier than we thought, were really going to be the two people who really were the most competitive. There was always the possibility that Jaydee would just hijack the show [laughs] from top to bottom because he's so damn pretty.

Q- This is the fifth Canadian Idol we've had and they've sold so many records. What advice do you have for Brian to stand out from the pack?
Farley Flex- I think with Brian the same journey he's had throughout the show, which was to win people over one show one song at a time, is exactly what I would recommend, which is he should be in front of people in intimate circumstances and don't try to be too big too fast, just be slow and easy. It has to be personal. He's a personal type of singer.
Jake- I got to tell you, though, that if you go back and watch all the shows with the mentors, every mentor said, "Well, I really don't have any advice for you,' when they were talking to Brian, because he really found his own way all the time and he stuck to his guns. How many people on this show or on any show or on any idol show in the world would decide to do a Radiohead song? That kind of song…
Zack- I would say that Brian, even in his first audition, I said, on occasion you are better than you actually are. And the fact is is that with the right song that kid is devastating. With the wrong song he's OK, you know. He's really got to make strong choices from now on because in the right piece of material the kid is really, really powerful.
Jake- But he has great instincts and he's always made really good choices in the songs he's chosen to sing on the show.
Q- Since it's been five years with this show, is there a formula to become a Canadian idol winner?
Jake- Obviously not because they've been so diverse. I mean, take a look. Like really diverse. Kalan (Porter), Eva (Avila), Melissa (O'Neil). They're all different.
Zack- I do think that if you're so genre specific you do cut off the bottom and the top, and people judge you as in 'I totally dislike this guy' or 'I totally like this woman,' and that's really going to cost you ultimately in the voting. So the people that don't dig country music or that don't get the retro thing, you're going to really have a hard time ultimately winning. It's really tough unless you're right in the mainstream.
Sass- It's the heart and the soul that Brian has. He's undeniable when he gets up there.
Jake- He's really hard not to like, and I will say this - we all felt this last night - I think you mentioned this last night, Sass, if Jaydee had won, I don't know if Brian would have a big career. I think he would have a rock band and possibly find some great songs and maybe be successful. But the fact that Brian won, he has a real opportunity for a career, but at the same time Jaydee can go and make a country record. I think he'll have a huge country career.
Zack- I think there's a big difference between wanting and needing, because I'm concerned that Brian needed to win to have the career that he deserves to have as a result. I think Jaydee is going to do good things because he wanted to win, because he has the ability to give really great performances. The fact is is that Brian needed to win in order to succeed.
Jake- If the guys from Sony-BMG don't sign Jaydee there will be a lineup of everybody else to sign that guy and bring him to Nashville, develop him over a couple of years, and make it happen. So you guys back there better be listening.

Q- Brian was…on the last performance show were you guys honestly trying to persuade viewers?
Sass- We all were trying to persuade them.
Jake- Me, personally, I think I was just being honest.
Farley- You know, whatever the X factor was on that performance night it was about performance and it was obvious to everybody.
Zack- I don't think…but from our perspective - live in the house- it can be very different from what it sounds like on television, where we're sitting Brian kicked his ass from here to next Tuesday.
Jake- And for what it's worth I think Brian was good enough or better than any of the other performers on the stage, including the big stars, so-called.
