JB- So what are you up to besides the weekend off and building snowmen in the next couple months? You're promoting the album. What else do you have on your plate?
EA- The promo started officially last Monday so it's been two full weeks of promotion in Ottawa, Montreal, Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary. And then I'm going home to Toronto to rest for a bit. Next week I'll be doing promo throughout Ontario and then after that I'm going to Halifax to do some press over there so that'll be fun. After that I'm doing a few appearances and then there will be some Christmas stuff so that's all in the works. And then come Christmas, I get to go home with my family and spend the holidays with them. And when we're all back from the holidays, we'll be starting the rehearsals for the tour.
JB- Speaking of Christmas, if there's one Christmas gift you would recommend our audience get this year. What would it be?
EA- Oh my God. Um…
JB- (whispering) "Give Me The Music."
EA- (laughing) Very good! I didn't think of that! Yes, yes, my album "Give Me The Music"! I'm a really big fan of making presents. This year what I'm doing is I bought a puzzle of elephants, and my mother is crazy about elephants. This is a huge puzzle. It's going to be very long to make. But I'm making the puzzle and I'm going to have it framed and that'll be her present. So I'm a big fan of being creative and putting my own spin on things.
JB- Well you did make us all a Christmas gift which is in stores now. Pick it up, right?
EA- Yeah! Thank you.
JB- Check out EvaAvila.com for all the details about what Eva's up to next. Eva Avila, thanks so much for joining us today. All the best. Good luck with the new album, the tour and, well, everything else you're taking the world by storm with.
EA- Aww, thank you so much. That's very nice of you. I appreciate it.
JB- No problem. Take care.
EA- Thank you. Bye.
JB- I understand you did some writing on this new album. That must be fun to be part of the creative process on stuff rather than just having songs handed to you and you perform them.
EA- Absolutely. Yeah, it's very different, it's very gratifying to be part of every step of the process.
JB- So what's the vibe of the album? It seems sort of R&B and soulful but also with a twist of pop. How do you describe it?
EA- Yeah, that's pretty much it. We wanted a very soulful, almost Motown-ish kind of approach. And this time around, as opposed to the first record, we had actual musicians come into the studio and play. And these are live instruments on the record. It's not just ProTools tracks or anything electronically produced. It's actually live instruments. We wanted to combine that with a few pop or urbany, contemporary elements to make it kind of current. And yes, it is pop. Anything can be pop these days. Anything that appeals to different demographics or anything that's radio-friendly can be called pop. But I'm a very R&B-influenced person and I find this album is just a little more genuine and it's more me because I was part of the whole process creatively. I was there to give my suggestions. I even came up with some background vocal parts on my own. It felt like every little bit and piece of those songs -- each and every one of those songs -- I had something to do with it. So it's very gratifying to be able to present material that I worked very hard for.
JB- I'm sure you're proud of every song on the album. But when you look at the disc, what is the one song that jumps out at you? Which one do you have the best memories of when you were writing or… which one's your favourite? Which one's your baby?
EA- Oh, that's a hard one. It'll probably change because once I start performing them live it might change. As of now, I really feel "What I Want (Not What I Need)" and "You Don't Say No" and "I'm Sorry" and maybe "Master Plan." I'm going to start naming them all! (laughing) They all had very, very special spots in my heart for different reasons. They were fun to record. I mean, every song has its little story. And I'm always excited to hear people's feedback.
