JB- You haven't seen the world, but you have seen California. It's not all it's cracked up to be! [Before going on the air, JB and Eva discussed Canadian winters and California's heat]
EA- (laughing) I have seen California and I actually recorded part of the album there. California is beautiful. It was my first time going. I got to hang out in Hollywood a little bit, I got to go to Universal Studios, do a bit of shopping on the Sunset Strip. I have to say it's beautiful, but I wouldn't necessarily want to live there. I absolutely love Canada. I love the four seasons. I need change sometimes.
JB- You are one of the few true Canadians that appreciates the cold and the snow.
EA- I am. I do love the snow. A lot of people that live in Canada just complain all the time about the snow. If you're not happy in Canada, you can always move to sunny California! There's no clouds, like you said before (we went on the air). It's beautiful every day. It's the best place to live if you hate snow. I personally love the snow. My favourite season is fall. I love it when it's just a little bit cool and the leaves change colours. I think it's so inspiring and gorgeous at that time of the year. And I absolutely adore Christmas. I think it's my favourite holiday, even more than my own birthday. So when I see snow it just reminds me of my childhood and holiday time and the holiday period and, I don't know, I love snow! I always will.
JB- When's the last time you made a snowman?
EA- The last time I did a snowman? Oh my God! It's been a few years for sure. I think the last time I made a snowman was when I was 12, or 13, or something.
JB- Oh, no, no, no.
EA- Yes, yes.
JB- We have to change that. OK, when are you in Winnipeg next?
EA- (laughing) I will be launching a concert tour around February or March. So around that time or perhaps a little bit later in April I will be touring in Canada and I will definitely stop in Winnipeg.
JB- So if you're here in February or March, you give me a call and we'll make a snowman. Deal?
EA- That sounds great. I really, really miss it . . . I used to be more of a fort person. I used to build like little forts and hide in them and play games and stuff. That's one of my strongest memories.
JB- We'll make one the snowman can hide in then, OK?
EA- OK, yeah. For sure! (laughing) That sounds good.

JB- You love the snow and you love music. Naturally everybody wants to be famous. You said Idol wasn't something you considered before, but how did you think you would get your big break? How did you envision your path to stardom?
EA- You know what… that's a very excellent question. I've been singing since the age of 3 and my dad taught me how to sing, and I used to tour festivals with him, I used to enter competitions. I was kind of hoping for that one opportunity to be spotted by someone. I used to open for a few pretty big Quebec artists. So I was kind of secretly hoping for that magic moment of a record producer or a person to say, "Hey, here's my card. You've got some talent. Come into our office, we'd like to meet you." Basically, you know, the old fashioned way -- word of mouth and people going to see shows and spot someone, "That person has talent, let's get her in the office and see what kind of songs we can work together on." Honestly, I didn't give it that much thought because it was stressing me so much. All my life I knew I wanted to do this. I didn't know how I was going to get there but I knew I was. Like you mentioned, I never thought it was going to be through a TV reality competition. Everything happens for a reason. There's a reason why I changed my mind at the last minute and I'm really happy I did. I don't regret one bit of it.
JB- And there's a reason you're talking to us today and that's to talk about the album.
EA- Exactly!
JB- So the album… and I do have a correction, I think it should be "Give Us The Music" because that's sort of what you did. Not "Give Me The Music." You gave us the music, didn't you?
EA- Aww! Yeah, I guess so. I thought that was a really strong statement and it was the title track so I just felt that was the best title.
JB- Yeah, would there be still time to change it? Or is it too late? I guess so, hey?
EA- Well, we're planning on a U.S. release so you never know we might change the title! (laughing) We'll take it into consideration!
JB- "Give Me The Music" is the new single. That's gotta be pretty exciting.
EA- Yes, it's very exciting. I'm very happy about it.
She won Canadian Idol, but that doesn't mean Eva Avila is just a singer. But she is travelling the country to promote her new CD. Eva joined JB for a chat.
