JB- So you're talking about these songs you're recording and the hopes to get a major label. What are your other plans? Something television? Something theatrical? What do you see yourself doing?
DH- I would love to do a television series. Of course, I would love to do a movie, but I would love to do a television series, like a recurring role to start off. When I was six years old, I first started in musical theatre, and while I'm probably OK at that still; it's been several years. I'm much better at film acting, so I would love to do that. So if there are any networks out there that would want to pick me up, holler. Holler at your boy.
JB- What other, if any, reality shows would you go on?
DH- Um. I don't know. I'd probably do a guest appearance on The Hills or something. (laughing) I don't know. Why? Every time I go to this red carpet event I see these girls that are phenomenally famous for being on this reality show, and I'm, like, 'Wow. Awesome.' So maybe one of those.
JB- You could be that girl, hey? (laughing)
DH- No, not the girls. There are guys on The Hills!
JB- What is your favourite TV show?
DH- I like Brothers and Sisters. Have you ever seen that?
JB- No. I guess what the problem is when you have to watch TV for your work, you try to avoid it, because it's not entertainment now. It's not really a hassle, but it's a chore, so I try to avoid TV as much as possible. Thing is, of course, with the top 40 show we do here, too, I have to listen to music all the time. So sometimes that gets a little old, as well.
Were you surprised at all at the fact that people just appearing on American Idol . . . we do, of course, top 40, so when we look at the song list of the 26 songs we play in the two hours, almost each of them has some sort of American Idol connection, either the artist has appeared or mentored, or it's one of the former contestants. Isn't that just crazy to think?
DH- It's awesome. It is kind of crazy. Most of the people that are selling the most albums right now are former Idol contestants. That show's done wonders for people. That's why I've been so thankful to have been on it. Look what it's done for Carrie Underwood, or Kelly Clarkson or who else? Fantasia. What's cool about it is that you don't have to win to be successful. Chris Daughtry.
JB- Kellie Pickler. She'll be here for the Canadian Country Music Awards. I'm not sure what the connection is there or why she'd be here, but hopefully, her boobs can fit in the theatre. She grew up over time, didn't she?
DH- Yeah? She's a sweet girl, though.
JB- She's Dolly-ish. And Dolly is still looking good, though.
DH- She's great. She was one of the mentors.
JB- Who would you want to mentor you? Who, if anybody, would you have? I know Stevie Wonder is one yours. Michael Jackson. I'm close? I did my research.
DH- Stevie would have definitely been. Michael Jackson. Yeah. Babyface. Peabo Bryson.
JB- And Alicia Keys?
DH- Oh, yeah! That's a given. She's phenomenal. I probably wouldn't even be able to record a song with her, because I would be so in awe listening to her and watching her. She's phenomenal.
JB- Would you ever cover her songs?
DH- Yeah. Absolutely?
JB- Which one?
DH- I recently sang No One. I do little cool rendition of No One.
JB- I'm waiting. (laughing)
DH- Right!
JB- We're not breezing by that one!
DH- How am I going to sing that one? Maybe when I come to Canada to one of the concerts, we'll kick it off there.
JB- That'll be after the Celine song.
DH- Yes. Absolutely.
JB- I'm looking forward to it. Thanks very much for your time.
DH- No worries.
JB- All the best to you.
DH- Thank you.
