It might have seemed like a boy's club but Amberly held her own. What was it like being the only female finalist? She talked with JB shortly after elimination.
JB- It seems this season the judges aren't always offering up much constructive criticism, they're more just giving opinion. How did you find their words of wisdom? Was it helpful at all?
AT- Yeah, for the most part. Zack had some things to say early on about songs, making sure everything fits. That's something that's very important. Farley even said work the stage more on my last performance. You can definitely take that and apply it to your next week. Opinions - yeah, the really, really negative stuff you kind of just got (sic) to brush it off and have a backbone in this business because people will say nasty things to you and you kind of just have to let it go. The judges for the most part were really good to me and kept encouraging me. Constructive criticism is always good to get and I'll take that too.
JB- This far in the competition they've given you enough stuff - tips, advice, etc. - to work with so what more can they say?
AT- Definitely.

JB- You said the rest of the guys left in the competition are very talented. How do you feel about the eliminations thus far? Is Canada getting it right?
AT- You know, that's tricky because… I guess for Canada, Canada's getting it right. I think we probably see it differently from behind the scenes because we're not outside of it so we don't really know who's the buzz or, you know, who's talked about a lot. So I guess Canada's going to vote how they vote and that's just kind of how it's turned out so far. It'll be really interesting to see how the next few weeks will come down. I'm really excited about it.

Jeremy Bradley- Amberly Thiessen, voted off Canadian Idol last night. She is joining us on the phone live from Toronto. Amberly: no, no, no!
Amberly Thiessen- (laughing)
JB- The last girl in the competition, the one giving the guys a run for their money. What happened?
AT- I don't know what happened. You know, everyone is just so talented this year and we were told that the votes were just so close every week… and, I don't know! Someone's gotta go home every week. And every week from now on pretty much someone good is going to be going home and it's going to get really hard but those five boys will do great.
JB- Going on a week-by-week basis, let's talk about this week. You changed up your look. One of the judges called you Elvira Why did you change it up? What was that about?
AT- I'm not a person who likes to get trapped in a bubble and I think sometimes I get the feeling like, "Oh, I have to look a certain way" and I like to explore things. I mean, it's my own personal style. I really am not just one type. What I was trying to go for did not, I mean, obviously come across that way to Zack and maybe to some other people too. That's unfortunate but I don't regret anything, it's just it happens and you just gotta move on and learn from it.
JB- Do you think that turned off some viewers? Maybe the new look was too distracting during your performance?
AT- It might have been. It's definitely a possibility. I think my fans would still be my fans even if the makeup was a little dark or whatever. But, yeah, like I said, it just didn't come across how I really wanted the vibe to be, but that's OK.

JB- Sass Jordan… well, actually all the judges said you have such a distinct sound. But I guess being the only female on the show, that's a given! But do you think sounding unique worked against you?
AT- Yeah, that is true, however, I do think it is good to be distinct and unique. If that means I get voted off now then I'll take it. I'd rather have a distinctive voice than sound mainstream. I would take that as a compliment and if that's why I got booted, then I'll take it.
JB- It really is a compliment then.
AT- Oh, yeah. I take it as a compliment.
